Trixie Little

Trixie Little

Founder

Trixie is a hardworking acrobat and activist with irrepressible style and a super-hero-like ability to make things fabulous. Trixie founded Fluid Movement in 1998 and is responsible for bringing Fluid Movement’s trademark synchronized swimming shows into being. Viewing art as a lifestyle, not an hobby, Trixie has become known for her outlandish costumes, created for both performing and street wear, that are a cross between a Surrealist painting and an MGM musical. In addition to performance shenanigans with Fluid Movement, Trixie has a fine arts background, is an Open Society Institute Community Fellow and can be found performing as burlesque superhero - Trixie Little.

Ron Christian

Ron Christian

Board Member, Secretary

After encouraging his wife, Hilary, to explore her “inner performer,” Ron “Big Daddy” Christian followed her to Fluid Movement, where he watches her perform in its roller skating shows and water ballet shows. Inspired by the silly sophistication and happy wonderment of it all, he found he also wanted to give to the Movement. And so now, he’s a Fluid Movement Board member. He lives with his wife and cats in Charles Village and is an Assistant Executive Director at The Arc Baltimore, which serves people with developmental and intellectual disabilities and their families.

Melissa Sharlat

Melissa Sharlat

Board Member

Melissa “Ultra” Sharlat started playing underneath her parent’s piano at the tender age of three. One day she actually played it, and has been performing ever since.
A fundraiser (by day), ordained reverend and self-taught drummer, Ms. Sharlat has performed with many fabulous local bands and in several Fluid Movement extravaganzas.  As a founding member of the highly acclaimed comedy/improvisation troupe, The Flying Tongues, Ms. Melissa toured the country with them and quit after she made her millions.

Karen Stults

Karen Stults

Board Member

Karen Stults moved to Baltimore for Fluid Movement. Among other things. She loves FM’s capacity to bring folks together, celebrate individuality, and give average Joe’s and Julie’s an opportunity to shine. In her spare time, she raises money for MICA, serves on the Board of Directors of the Baltimore Conservatory Association, supports arts integration in Baltimore City schools, and hangs out on her stoop in Hampden. She made her aquatic debut as Fraulein Karen “Blaue Augen” von Stultsenheimerberger, a milkmaid from Liechtenstein, in Fluid Movement’s 2009 production, STRANGE CUSTOMS: The Flurry Family Odyssey.

Melissa Martens

Melissa Martens

Founder

Melissa is a museum curator, artist, and writer living in New York City. She developed narratives and choreography for more than a dozen of Fluid Movement’s early shows,
and introduced new mediums such as roller skating, square dancing, flamenco dancing, tap dancing, and tchotchke shakin’. Her work today continues to explore intersections between people, geography, memory, and popular culture through unexpected modes of expression.
